The Assignment: Recently, we were assigned a project to appropriate a famous artist. Unlike others in the class, I chose a off the radar street artist. We could either take a piece of their work and make it our own; or use multiple pieces of their work to create something to mimic their style. Instead of doing that, I did both. I used multiple pieces of Jace's work, and added my own touch to it. This resulted in eight pieces of Jace's work on one canvas. My Choice: I choose Jace because he is unique from other artists. Some may even say he isn't an artist, but he has opened my eyes to a new form of art - street art. Also, he doesn't only do his own work, but he adds his iconic orange character, Gouzou, to almost anything. Just a normal Perrier billboard was hijacked by Jace and Gouzou. Or the well-known MGM logo being appropriated by Jace himself. The main reason I chose him was because of his different take on the art world. What I Learned: Overall, I learned many new techniques with his help. His sharp lines and super-tight edges take forever to recreate, resulting in a major OCD overload. I had so much fun with it in the end though, all those extra hours and nine-hour long Sunday work sessions was worth it in the end.
