Art. Something we all know about, that we see, touch, breathe, in our everyday lives. Without art, nothing would be the same in our diverse community we live in today. Everyone would be the alike, no diversity, no opinions to your own matter; the public would be as square and boring as a card board box. Imagine you walking down the street everyone wearing the same clothes, no taste, no style, but just the plain same. Look around, is that the case? No. Because with art, that will never happen.
Ever since I was a little girl, all I wanted to do was draw; it transferred me into a magical place that no one else understood. You had your own rules, no one to tell you what to do. Unlike in the rigid class society we call school, where if you don’t do it their way, you’re wrong. That is the problem with our social order today; you’re automatically an outcast if you don’t think the way you are taught. That’s what Sir Ken Robinson is trying to preach out to us today. “Education is meant to take us into this future that we can’t grasp,” - the message that Robinson talks about in his video.
School is draining the creativity out of our generation; we’re being molded to be these perfect little angels that we aren’t mean to be. Yes I know, parents only want the best for their kids, but shouldn’t that come with a balance of being yourself? All these kids have these amazing talents, but no one to show, because it “art isn’t a realistic occupation.” But should that matter considering it is the only happiness some have inside? Art is the freedom of expression to me; it’s what I do when I’m sad, happy, lonely or hurt. It’s my way of sitting down and talking it out. But with society today, it isn’t a “realistic future” anymore, which shouldn’t be the case. You should be able to choose your path - and lead the life that you were put here today to overcome.
If you ask anyone the definition of art, they will all say something different. Because art is in the eye of the beholder. To you it might be the street work you see on the brick wall you pass every morning, but to another it could be the way the light shines on Michelangelo’s David at ten till noon. The concept of art has changed so much over time, that anything could be it. Without it, they’re would be no creativity for new ideas, just kids being shut down for being different. Art is the reason to be the way you are, and without it, where would we be?
